Former Cleveland Browns quarterback indicted

A grand jury in Texas has indicted Johnny Manziel, a former quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. The indictment is for an assault charge related to family violence.

The alleged victim in the case is a former girlfriend of the Heisman Trophy winner. The assault allegedly occurred on Jan. 30 in Dallas, Texas. The woman reportedly said that Manziel hit her repeatedly and told her he would kill her when they were out on the town. In addition, the woman alleged that the former star from Texas A&M struck her when they were driving back to her home in Fort Worth. According to a report on CBSsports.com, the woman suffered a ruptured eardrum when he hit her.

A bond amount hasn’t been set yet, but once it is, then Manziel will be booked into jail. One of Manziel’s attorneys hopes that the case will get dismissed. Another attorney who was a family violence judge said that the district attorney may want to avoid taking the case to trial. He said that Manziel could end up with a conditional dismissal. That means Manziel will need to go to alcohol rehab, anger management and/or batterer’s intervention counseling.

During the last offseason, Manziel spent 10 weeks in rehab. Because of the off-field issues, the Browns let Manziel go in March and his agent soon followed suit. It doesn’t appear that he will be back in the National Football League anytime soon.

If you are in an abusive relationship, you do have options. An attorney can help you file for a restraining order or even a divorce. Ensuring your safety and the safety of any children involved must be a priority.
