Marriage Statistics: Then and Now

Not all married couples end up together for the rest of their lives. Indeed, a huge percentage of Nevada marriages result in a divorce. Although the actual percentage of marriage success is a debatable topic, Business Insider recently published new information regarding the current status of marriage success statistics in the United States.

According to the statistics, approximately 11 percent of Americans aged 30 had already been through a divorce. Meanwhile, 42 percent of 63-year-olds had been through a divorce, and 43 percent of 63-year-olds were still married to their first spouse.

Interestingly, looking at divorce statistics from prior decades shows that younger people aged 20 had a much higher rate of having gone through a divorce than modern 20-year-olds. This is likely due to the fact that people are marrying much older than they did in the past, so not many modern 20-year-olds have been married as compared to 20-year-olds from the 1960s and 1980s.

That said, when looking at Americans in older demographics, divorce statistics are higher compared to 1960 and 1980. For example, modern Americans over the age of 40, are more likely to have gone through a divorce than 40-year-olds in 1960 and 1980.

Regardless what the statistics say, a marriage that doesn’t work today, is probably not that different from a marriage that didn’t work in the past. There are different remedies that might work for a marriage that is having difficulties. Those include counseling and other therapies.
